Most popular pet names 2020: Rona and Fauci not on the list
Is it bad luck to name your pet after the coronavirus pandemic? Some animal lovers are doing exactly that in 2020, giving their dogs and cats monikers that include “Corona,” “Rona,” “Covi” and “Covid.”
Others folks are taking a different approach, opting for “Fauci” in honor of Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top expert on infectious diseases.
That’s the word from Trupanion, a company that provides medical insurance for pets in the United States, Canada, Australia and Puerto Rico. The Seattle-based company says it has a database with information on more than than 530,000 dogs and cats. Staffers noticed an “uptick in COVID-related pet names” this year after the pandemic hit in March, a spokesman said via a press release.
Still, more conventional names — such as Bella, Charlie, Luna and Lucy — proved to be among the most popular for dogs and cats in 2020, according to the company’s database. Is your pet’s name in the Trupanion top 10? Check out the lists below.
