Build-Your-Own Delivery-Only Restaurant Pastaholics Opens in a Ghost Kitchen in Berkeley Park, Atlanta
Another delivery-only restaurant opens soon in Atlanta, this time serving build-your-own pasta dishes. Located at the Forrest Neighborhood Kitchen facility in the Berkeley Park neighborhood, Pastaholics begins delivering via most third-party services Monday, December 14.
Owned by chef and restaurant consultant Shaunya Noble, people choose a pasta type from the menu, followed by a sauce, and then up to three add-ons, including cherry tomatoes, parmesan cheese, and meatballs. The menu also features three salads and desserts like tiramisu and ricotta cheesecake.
Pastaholics joins a growing number of virtual restaurants popping up around Atlanta during the pandemic. Ghost kitchens tend to allow for a certain amount of flexibility, with the ability to quickly adapt a menu to the changing tastes of customers. Enterprising chefs, like Noble and others, also use ghost kitchens to test out new business ideas or as a stepping stone to opening a full-service restaurant.
Earlier this fall, a location of Florida-based Krungthep Tea Time became the first virtual restaurant to open for takeout and delivery at Forrest Neighborhood Kitchen. Since its opening in September, the Cloud Kitchens facility now houses several virtual restaurants open for takeout and delivery, including Bangkok Bold Asian Fusion Kitchen; Orgasmic Airfried Eggrolls; Mattchews Asian Sandwiches; Chi-Talian Beef Sandwiches; and Moonbowls Korean.
People order food through a restaurant’s website or third-party service for pick-up or delivery. Delivery drivers and customers who choose to pick up their food check the status of orders using tablets located in the lobby of the building. Sources tell Eater, a small food hall is eventually planned for Forrest Neighborhood Kitchen, complete with indoor and outdoor seating.
Chef Nick Leahy recently launched delivery-only restaurant Chicken Out from his full-service Brady Avenue restaurant Nick’s Westside. Yumbii owner Carson Young opens his takeout and delivery restaurant the Queso Shop this winter in the Piedmont Heights neighborhood. That restaurant features a walk-up takeout window and offers a variety of cheese dips, as well as tacos, nachos, and quesadillas. On December 21, San Francisco Bay-area delivery restaurant Man vs Fries opens on Spring Street in Midtown, serving build-your-own straight-cut or curly fry concoctions as loaded French fry plates, burritos, or quesadillas.
